There are no indications if it were originally a Roman or Germanic settlement. Eller was recorded first time in 1218 as "Elnere" in a register of the convent of Gerresheim. Eller was widely destroyed in World War II. The central church St. Gertrudis was destroyed nearly completely in 1944. WW II ended in Eller on 17 April 1945 when American troops reached it. Eller was rebuilt and the park of the castle reopened in 1950. The largest skate park in Germany has opened in the western city of Dusseldorf. The 3,800-square-meter facility, which was first floated in 2005, cost €1.8 million. The city of Dusseldorf opened Germany's biggest skate park after more than a decade in the making. I am starting this walk at the Eller Mitte, then taking a quick stroll through the cozy neighbourhood of the Gumbertstraße. I will then show you briefly the Skatepark and move on the castle.
