I also have chipped gem + Ort for repair instead of bringing in another Gavel of Pain. Isolating Mephisto allows my merc to survive better and reduce the number of minions to howl. The merc is dps oriented, so you need to give him rejuvs promptly. His weapon is pretty insane (suggested by @competItIvemufflndIver ).
