Bush, his lifetime of public service that began in the Navy during World War II, ended with one term as president and was characterized throughout by what admirers say was his innate decency, generosity and kindness. Bush, who was president from 1989 to 1993, died Friday in Houston at age 94. In February 2005, Bush joined with his successor Bill Clinton touring tsunami areas of Asia. The two-ex presidents later joined forces to raise awareness and funds for those affected by the devastation. During an Associated Press interview that March, both presidents spoke about how they were affected by children's drawings of the aftermath as they reported to then President George W. Bush. At the time, Bill Clinton was preparing for surgery to have a rare build-up of fluid and scar tissue removed from his chest and joked about keeping up with the elder Bush at a charity golf match. The two-ex presidents clearly enjoyed each others company and sought to make the most of their status as America''s "political odd-couple." "Before he beat me and made me unemployed, " Bush said the two men had a good relationship. "Not to say differences don''t matter, not to say you shouldn''t have political arguments but I think if we remembered our common humanity it would make our politics work better not worse," Clinton added.
