With adversity seemingly weighing heavy on his shoulders, it’s the perfect soundscape to introspect, reflect and make declarations without the incitement of a kick or a snare. Opening with “Long gone are the better days, n***a / God gives and he takes” on “MARK 15: 35”, A-Reece spends a portion of Today’s Tragedy, Tomorrow’s Memory grappling with the idea of death and its effects on those who are left behind, be it himself, his family or the friends and families of victims of violence in the ‘hood. Today’s Tragedy, Tomorrow’s Memory is an emotional exorcism ridding Reece of fear, doubt and grief in songs such as “MARK”, “THE SAME THING” and “JIMMY’S INTERLUDE”. Yet sexually charged songs such as “NIGHTMARE ON BRYANSTON DR” and “MORNING PEACE” act as an intermission and a reminder that life has to go on after tragedy. He raps, “They say nothing lasts forever, but these records probably do” on “JIMMY’S INTERLUDE”, a thought he expands on in “RE$IDUAL $ELF-IMAGE”—with the constant reminder that while his time in this realm is limited, he vows to make music that’s honest, rather than pursue accolades and popularity. Why would he, with such an inspiring story of leveraging the momentum he gained as a signed artist in the mid-2010s? It's a story he details on “DOTTED LINEZ” and “HIBACHI”, songs in which the Pitori emcee shadowboxes for show. He’s joined by Wordz, Stogie T, Belosalo and singer Ayanda Jiya, rounding out the mysterious rapper’s most humanising project to date.
