Kiran Rao said, “Aamir loved the character, he auditioned as well. But I felt that since he is a star there will be expectations for the character. Aamir was bringing a star baggage. So, we wanted someone so fit in the role that you cannot make out what happens he does next. Ravi Kishan is amazing, I felt that there cannot be a better 'Manohar' than him.” “In a way, Aamir (Khan) helped a lot because he supported the idea of having fresh actors so that people are surprised and find a few things as discoveries. When you see stars, you understand that this is a hero and that is a villain...We had to keep it suspenseful till the end,” she added. She also said, "Actually, Aamir (Khan) when he was a judge at a screenwriting competition in 2018.
