Made in Aberlour, Scotland, A’Bunadh is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Cask Strength Whiskey bottled at 60.7% ABV. This is a Speyside Whiskey. ----------------- Let’s break it down; “Highland” is a designator. It refers to the region of Scotland the Whiskey was developed in. “Single Malt” means it has not been blended with other Whiskey’s, and distilled in one location. “Scotch” is a name for any brand of Whiskey developed in Scotland. “Cask Strength” means that from the barrel to the bottle, no distilled water has been added to the Whiskey to make it more approachable. ----------------- The colors of this Whiskey are Caramel, Brown, and a Red, Maroon that are from the Spanish Oloroso Sherry Casks. A Sherry Cask, is a barrel made of wood from an Oak Tree. The cask is filled with Sherry, in this case from Spain. Once the barrel is emptied it is reused to store the Whiskey. Some of the Sherry flavor remains soaked in the Oak, and adds flavor to the Whiskey over the time that it is stored in the Cask. ----------------- On the Nose, initially there’s a Burning sensation from the alcohol percentage, once that blows off there are scents of Creamy Fruit, Sherry, Candy, Marzipan, and Dry and Sweet Smells. ----------------- Before adding Droplets of Water; the flavor profile has a Dry Alcohol taste flavored with Marzipan, Pear, Sherry, Cherry, Peach, Cloves, Cinnamon. The flavor profile changes with added drops of Water, it brings out Winter Christmas Time Flavors; Cloves, Cinnamon, Candied Apple, and again, Sherry. Best way to drink high alcohol content Scotch, is by adding water Droplet by Droplet if you want to bring the alcohol burn down and help pull some of the flavor out.
