| Video Discription | parishoners in socorro county are about to say goodbye to their community church that has been around for nearly 180 years. we just learned today the church in lemitar will soon be torn down. joe vigil has been following this story since the day a wall collapsed and is here with what's next for parishioners. the future has been very uncertain for people in lemitar. because they've had no church to pray in, church services have been held in a neighbor's living room. but we learned today services won't be held there forever. people in lemitar have been praying in la sagrada familia catholic church since 1835. now they will gather here to pray for the church. it will soon be torn down. "i don't know if i want to personally be here for that. i know i'll cry. and i know it will be an extremely, extremely sad thing because it's just like it will be the passing of a family member." "and we will watch it as it goes back to earth." an adobe wall collapsed he last year during renovations. two people were working right next to the wall, but left for lunch. they returned to see the wall fall. many were hoping the church would be restored. but the decision has been made to tear it down. so this saturday at 5pm parishioners will gather here one last time to say farwell. "what we're hoping to do is get a church with a new foundation that will last, through my daughter, my daughter, our grandchildren, our grandchildren's children that will live forever." "but it's gone, or will be completely gone, and there will be something new. and it's pretty much like death and resurrection. that's the way we look at it. that's the way we have to look at it." again the farewell mass is this saturday but the church won't be torn down until august. i'm told a new church may be standing a little more than a year from now.
