A team of data scientists at the Federal Public Service Finance in Belgium – which in other countries would be the Ministry of Finance - changed that. Using SAS Viya and its artificial intelligence capabilities, FPS Finance developed “Aurora”, an analytics tool that calculates every new tax measure to the cent. They are now able to predict how updated tax rules affect Belgium citizens. Senior Data Scientist Dierk Op 't Eynde, and Adriaan Luyten, head of the FPS Finance Tax Policy Unit, describe some of the technical considerations, and explain how using analytics to simulate future tax reforms helps policymakers understand the impact of each decision.
