| Video Discription | PHEO or Pheochromocytoma is a very rare tumor. So the prevalence is much lesser, as in 1 per 1 lakh. It is a very rare tumor and if you take those individuals with high blood pressure. Fewer than 1% of individuals will have Pheochromocytoma. So you might have read somewhere that if you are anxious or if your chest is pounding and if you have high blood pressure you are likely to have PHEO. I would like to say that it is unlikely to say that you are having Pheo. Many of these patients who have these underlying symptoms have anxiety. And they go for doctor to doctor and look for conformation whether they have Pheochromocytoma or not. So the presence or absence of Pheochromocytoma can be easily mad e out by doing something called as a 24 hour urine metanephrines. Fractionated metanephrines. Metanephrines, nor metanephrines, separately assayed with 24 hour levels. So with these simple urine tests you can make out whether a person who is having anxiety is having Pheo or not.
