Maritime coordinator George Mack offers an overview of the tallship, which is anchored in Dana Point Harbor. The ship is a replica of that made famous in "Before the Mast" by Richard Henry Dana. On weekends, the tall ship crew dresses in character, offering a living history look at life on the ship. The Ocean Institute is also home to the annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival each September, which is the largest West Coast gathering of tall ships. The tall ship festival features a tall ship cruise on the Brig Pilgrim and Spirit of Dana Point. Tall ship sailing is offered every weekend aboard the Spirit of Dana Point. The Spirit also offers extended tall ship cruises to Catalina for snorkeling excursions.
