Our 2 part guide, starts in Castle Combe, voted the prettiest village in England a number of times. Hardly changed since the 16 hundreds, this sleepy village is also famous for being the backdrop in a number of films, including Steven Spielberg's War Horse and the 1967 classic Dr Dolittle. Walking down by the river "By Brook", the weaver's cottages are the highlight. Home to the local weavers back in the 15th century, they were highly skilled craftsmen men and women and held high status in the village. Possibly the most beautiful chocolate box village in the Cotswolds and noted as such by William Morris when he visited. It can get very busy here so suggest you come early morning or late afternoon when the tour buses have passed.
