| Video Discription | On 16th December 2022, a landslide struck a campsite in Batang Kali, a popular hilly area in the Malaysian state of Selangor. A total of 31 people perished in the deadly mud, including 13 children. Authorities said a slope as high as a 30-storey building collapsed onto the campsite. It was Malaysia’s worst landslide in nearly three decades. The tragedy brought back memories of the 1993 Highland Towers incident that killed 48 people after a huge mudslide brought on by heavy rain triggered the collapse of the 12-storey building on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. What went wrong? Are landslides in Malaysia natural disasters or man-made tragedies? CNA correspondent Afifah Ariffin speaks with survivors and rescue workers involved in the Batang Kali landslide to reconstruct the events of that fateful night.
