Everyone remembers the classic character Officer Doofy from the Scary Movie franchise his memorable antics especially cleaning his room are forever etched into the memories of many 90s and naughties kids.
But who was the creative genius behind Officer Doofy and where did he go after Scary Movie?
Officer Doofy was played by David Christopher Sheridan. A talented actor, producer and writer from Delaware USA.
Sheridan was born in Newark Delaware on March 10 1969 and is 54 years old at the time of writing this. He is 6ft tall and a dead ringer for a young Jim Carrey.
He enjoyed skateboarding in his high school days and he started his career as an intern on Saturday Night Live during the 1991–1992 season.
From there, he entered Chicago's famed comedy troupe, The Second City, where he wrote, directed, and produced "Dave Sheridan's America", a multimedia theatre style show.
In 1996 David Sheridan created and starred in the MTV reality series Buzzkill, alongside close friend Travis Draft, Frank Hudetz & Vince D'Orazi.
Buzzkill featured three slacker buddies staging elaborate pranks and catching it all on video.
Each episode was set in a different location and consisted of three separate pranks. Seven episodes were filmed the first of which aired on 13th May 1996
Jeff Tremaine's Big Brother Magazine had launched their video predecessor to jackass in April 1996, one month prior.
Buzzkill was eventually cancelled because of an incident involving Whitney Houston where she became offended that she had been made to look foolish and demanded MTV fire them on the spot (link in the description)
In 1998 Dave starred in Dark City, a sci fi mystery film directed by Alex Proyas.
Sheridan is well known for his role as Officer Doofy in the year 2000 smash hit Scary Movie. The character is a parody of Dewey Riley, a character from the 1996 horror film Scream, played by David Arquette.
Doofy is a mentally disabled cop that reporter Gail Hailstorm sleeps with in order to get information on the latest murder case. He gets lucky but he still doesn't give gail any information.
At the end of the film, Bobby Prinze and Ray Wilkins are killed while the Sheriff and Cindy Campbell ponder over who the true killer was since Bobby and Ray were merely copycats.
As they think through a montage of clues such as Buffy's comments that Doofy had a crush on Drew Decker and him showing up at her door with the mask, it dawns on her that Doofy was the true killer all along and she rushes out to find him, only to be told by another officer that he had Just left the police station. Doofy's feet are shown walking in a child-like manner before he begins to walk normally, revealing Doofy to have been faking his autism in order to throw off people's suspicions in a reference to the Kevin Spacey film The Usual Suspects.
Doofy is referenced to have a fetish for sticking his privates into a vacuum cleaner, which is eventually shown in a post-credits scene.
Since then, David has starred in a number of films produced by the Wayans Brothers, Including "Little Man", "50 Shades of Black", and both "A Haunted House" films.
He also portrayed the character Doug in the 2001 film "Ghost World".
Dave has also starred in many well-known comedies, including "Bubble Boy" and also appeared in the 2002 music videos for "By the Way" (playing a crazy taxi driver) and "Universally Speaking" by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Sheridan hosted a series called "Smile,You're Under Arrest!" on the Fox Reality Channel in 2008 & 2009
In 2014, he portrayed Sheriff Lincoln in the parody film The Walking Deceased, inspired by The Walking Dead.
In 2016, Sheridan started co-hosting The Dave and Creech Show podcast with actor/podcaster CJ Creech.
He is also well known for his work in the horror genre, with films such as Rob Zombie's "The Devil's Rejects", Adam Green's fourth installment of the "Hatchet" franchise, "Victor Crowley", and the 2024 film "Stream"
David Sheridan has toured with his band Van Stone, which was formed in 2004, in Palmdale California. They toured successfully including Vans Warped Tour and Bamboozle Fest.
Van Stone's music can best be described as hard rock with a lot of humor and tongue in cheek mixed in.
Dave reportedly lives in Philadelphia currently and to this day, he continues to wear the Officer Doofy attire and poses with fans for photos at pop culture conventions.
What's next for David Sheridan? Only the future will tell but the legacy of great characters like officer Doofy will always have a place in our hearts and funnybones.
