Video Discription |
Here's a complete broadcast (albeit edited edition) of The David Susskind Show on WTTW Channel 11, followed by the first four minutes of Enterprise with Eric Sevareid.
Mr. Susskind's show, as in this form, originated from WNEW Channel 5 in New York (already a sister station to Chicago's own WFLD Channel 32 at this point) from 1966 until its end in 1986, was shown in a two-hour format there, and would have aired on that station with commercials. (This was analogous to the days when Kup's Show originated out of WMAQ Channel 5 as over two hours, but in New York aired in an hour-long edited format over non-commercial WNYC Channel 31.)
Includes:
Station ID with local postman (identifying himself as Terry) doing his rounds as he plugs station
Show open (theme: "Gateway to the West" by Robert Farnon), with opening credits:

Produced by Jean Kennedy
Directed by Louis P. Levine
David previews the subjects to be discussed in this edition: class - who has or doesn't have it, to be followed by a discussion on "the ultimate seduction."
Segment 2's guests on his discussion on class are Benita Eisler (author of "Class Act: America's Last Dirty Secret"), Paul Fussell (Professor of English at University of Pennsylvania, contributing editor to New Republic, and author of "Class: A Guide Through the American Status System"), and Teri Noel Towe (partner in a Manhattan law firm, classical record critic, and radio host on WBAI 99.5 FM, the Pacifica affiliate in New York).
In the next segment, David has on author Charlotte Chandler, to talk about her new book "The Ultimate Seduction," and go over her life and times, and other books she'd written including "Hello, I Must Be Going" (a picture of her with Groucho Marx is shown, as well as other photos of her with the likes of Tennessee Williams, Lillian Gish and Federico Fellini, and a caricature Fellini did of her).

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels (or other cities occasionally); footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:
