This rock tells many stories in an unusual manner...through inscriptions and petroglyphs. Although the Anasazi were the first to leave their mark, Don Juan de Onate, in the 17th century, on his way back from what is now the Gulf of California, was the first to inscribe the rock. This tradition continued with the pioneers and railroad survey crews through the early 19th century. El Morro is open to the public year round. [6ibt1cZ2NMg] |
