Our only way out of the madness of the world is to fulfill the two great commandments, as given in the Gospel of Matthew 22:37-40, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And the second is like it. you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend (salvation) fulfilling the Law and (the teachings) of the prophets (since time began)." On the Divine Ideal of the two commandments, Swami Subramaniam comments in his booklet, "All Are One." "He who considers 'I am separate,' 'you are separate,' 'he is separate', and so on, act one way towards himself and another way towards others. He cannot help behaving so. The thought 'I am separate; others are separate,' is the seed from which grows the tree of differing actions in relation to different persons. How can there be any lapse from righteousness for a person who knows the unity of himself with others? As long as the germ of differentiation is there, you will engage, even unawares, in the evil of differing actions (i.e., partiality). Therefore, give up differentiation. All is one only." Only they can teach you what you are, for your learning is the result of what you taught them. What you call upon in them you call upon in yourself.
