Various of people searching rubble for victims STORYLINE: Heavy machinery moved rubble in the central Gaza town of Deir al-Balah on Thursday after an Israeli airstrike slammed into a mosque. At least eight people were buried under the rubble and 25 others were wounded in a residential building next-door, a resident said after Wednesday's strike. It was the latest in an intense wave of bombardment that has continued around the clock across the Gaza Strip even as over a million Palestinians have fled south after Israeli military evacuation orders from the north in hopes of finding safety. In Deir al-Balah and elsewhere Palestinians have claimed that Israeli airstrikes have targeted civilians. The Israeli military has claimed that it is going after Hamas militant infrastructure and says that Hamas often uses mosques and other civilian sites as protective cover — a claim that Palestinians reject. The Gaza Health Ministry said 3,478 people have been killed in Gaza since the war began, and more than 12,000 wounded, mostly women, children and the elderly. Another 1,300 people are believed buried under the rubble, health authorities said. More than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed, mostly civilians slain during Hamas’ deadly incursion on Oct. 7. Roughly 200 others were abducted.
