This is one of the five palaces located in or near downtown areas of Seoul - an indication that Korea has done a great job in preserving historical sites. Deoksugung Palace was last inhabited by Emperor Gojong prior to the Japanese occupation and showcases elements of Korea's royal family's conduct of state affairs and regular life over 100 years ago.
