| Video Discription | Dr. Huberman discusses two different and valuable tools for dealing with intrusive and addicting thoughts, depending on whether they carry an emotional load with them such as trauma. If the intrusive thoughts are just addicting and distracting akin to OCD, then tools for mindfulness and focus are an effective approach to abstaining from those thoughts. However dealing with negative thoughts arising from trauma or other emotional burdens require the exact opposite approach; the thoughts have to be directly engaged until they become a repetitive and old boring story. This requires getting the thoughts out of their unstructured and incomplete background from the mind into clear details whether through writing or therapy.
