| Video Discription | Ethiopia's ruling party, the Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), and its allies, have secured a landslide win in the parliamentary elections held on May 24, winning 546 of the total 547 seats. The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) announced the results of the election at a press conference in the capital Addis Ababa on Monday. The result of the 547th seat is currently still being processed, Merga Bekana, NEBE chairman, said at the press conference. "The House of People's Representative has 547 seats. Of this number, the Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front competed for 500 and won all the 500 seats," said Addisu Gebre-Egziabher, vice chairman of the NEBE. Of the remaining 46 seats, the Somali People's Democratic Party (SPDP) won 24 seats, the Benishangul Gumuz People's Democratic Party (BGPDP) won nine seats, the Afar National Democratic Party (ANDP) won eight seats, the Gambella People's Unity Democratic Movement (GPUDM) won three seats, and the Harari National League (HNL) and the Argoba People Democratic Organization (APDO) won one seat each. "The general elections were characterized by high voter turnout and orderly conduct of the election day proceedings. The election was culminated in free, fair, peaceful, credible and democratic manner," said Gebre-Egziabher. About 93.2 percent of the total registered 36.8 million voters cast their ballots on polling day, Bekana said. Fifty-eight political parties contested the 2015 election for parliamentary and regional councils, the fifth election held in Ethiopia following the overthrowing of the Derg regime in 1991.
