Overview:
"Fun House" was an American children's game show that aired from September 5, 1988, to April 13, 1991. The first two seasons were syndicated daily, and the third and final season was picked up by the Fox network and renamed "Fox's Fun House."
Format:
The show, similar to Double Dare, featured two teams competing in trivia and messy games. At the end of each episode, the winning team raced through an obstacle course known as the "Fun House."
Hosts and Crew:
The show was hosted by J.D. Roth throughout its run. He was joined by twin cheerleaders Jacqueline "Jackie" and Samantha "Sammi" Forrest, who each supported one of the teams. The original announcer, John "Tiny" Hurley, was replaced by Michael "Boogaloo Shrimp" Chambers (aka "MC Mike") when the show moved to Fox in 1990.
Sponsors:
British Knights was a major sponsor, providing shoes for all contestants and crew members, including Roth. Later, the sponsorship switched to LA Gear.
Production:
Bob Synes created the show, who served as executive producer with Scott Stone for the first two seasons. After Synes died in 1990, Stone partnered with David Stanley, and Stone Television became Stone Stanley Productions. The show continued under this production company until it ended in 1991. Initially co-produced and distributed by Lorimar-Telepictures, Lorimar Television took over co-production in 1989, with Warner Bros. Television Distribution as the distributor.
Spinoff:
A spinoff, "College Mad House," aired in 1989, hosted by Greg Kinnear. It featured college students from universities across the U.S. competing similarly.
