| Video Discription | Firefighters battled a large building blaze in a commercial area in Francella Street, Bromley, East Christchurch, on 29 January, 2024. Fire and Emergency NZ said they received multiple calls about 11.20am to the blaze, which is on Francella St in Bromley. The fire could be seen right across Christchurch. “It’s producing quite a lot of black smoke,” a Fenz spokesperson said. At about 12pm, Fire and Emergency New Zealand South Island shift manager Alex Norris said the fire was contained and the smoke had begun to “dissipate”. “The black smoke has started to go and it’s now grey smoke.” A nearby business believed the car dealership company NZ Car Buyer(s) had caught fire and said they felt ‘pretty lucky’ the wind was blowing the opposite way to their office. “We heard the sirens and felt pretty lucky the smoke was blowing the other way. They got it under control pretty quick.” Four crews from Anzac, Christchurch, Woolston and Redwood stations were working to put it out, the fire reached 4th Alarm status.. A police spokesperson said they had eventually arrived after the fire was virtually out but closed Francella St to "help" with the fire at a commercial building.
