When I got accepted into UCLA, I was BEYOND excited. I didn’t know anyone with an advanced degree, but I knew I wanted one. As a result, I was over zealous and didn’t really think about what I should consider when thinking about funding my graduate program. I was so unaware of just how graduate financial support works and where it comes from. I made a lot of decisions that impacted my PhD funding and financial aid, some for the better but many for the worse. I wanted to make a video that really discussed how to fund a PhD, what are the MOST important things to consider when negotiating a funding package, and ways to prepare to help others like me who are completely unaware of what is the BEST way to pay for grad school. This video was years in the making, because all of these grad mistakes didn’t happen overnight!
