| Video Discription | The Fighter Collection's Curtiss P-40F Warhawk and Curtiss Hawk 75 doing a paired display at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford on the second day of the Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow 2021. P-40F Warhawk:- The Fighter Collection’s Merlin-engined Curtiss P-40F Warhawk is one of only two P-40F variants that remain airworthy worldwide. The aircraft is on the UK civil register as G-CGZP. Manufactured at the Curtiss facility in Buffalo, New York in the autumn of 1942 as construction number 19503 and allocated Bureau No. 41-19841, she was delivered by land to the Stockton In-Transit Depot in California for onward shipment to the Thirteenth Air Force in the Southwest Pacific. Her service career remains a mystery, but the only P-40Fs to see combat in the Pacific Theatre were flown by the 44th and the 68th Fighter Squadrons of the 347th Fighter Group in the Solomon Islands from November 1942 to October 1943. This Warhawk ended her wartime career when she was condemned by the USAAF in November 1943, and dumped on the largest of Vanuatu’s islands, Espiritu Santo. She was recovered from the island in the 1970s, and acquired by The Fighter Collection some years later and stored in Australia until her restoration commenced by Murray Griffiths of Precision Aerospace productions in Wangaratta, Victoria. During her time in Australia she was registered VH-PIV. The in-depth restoration was completed and she made her first flight for 68 years in April 2011. Due to the lack of information on her service history, she wears the stunning scheme of 'Lee’s Hope' from the 85th Fighter Squadron, 79th Fighter Group, which was flown by Lieutenant Robert J. Duffield from Capodichino airfield, southern Italy in early 1944. If anybody can shed any light on this aircrafts unit history with the US Army Air Force in the Pacific, information would be most welcome. Hawk 75:- The Fighter Collection's Curtiss Hawk 75, G-CCVH, is the export version of the Curtiss P-36 Hawk. It was a private venture which flew for the first time in May 1935. Following development and a new engine, three prototype aircraft were ordered by the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) under the designation Y1P-36. This eventually led to the P-36 lineage which went on to serve with around a dozen air arms across the world, including the USAAC as the P-36, the Royal Air Force (RAF) as the Mohawk, and France as the H-75. This Hawk is one of the 100 in the first production batch sent to the French Air Force, and given the individual aircraft number 82, arriving in April 1939. Issued to 1 ére Escadrille, Groupe de Combat (GC) 11/5 Lafayette at Reims, where she carried the command stripes on the fuselage of the personal aircraft of Commandant Murtin, Commanding Officer of both GC 1/5 and GC 11/5. She moved to Toul during the Battle of France, and then on to Oran in Algeria before the Armistice. From 1940 to 1942 Hawk No.82’s Squadron, now part of Vichy French Forces, was engaged in sporadic skirmishes with RAF and United States Navy (USN) aircraft over Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco. Between 1946 and 1949 Hawk No.82 was with the 4th Training Squadron at Cazaux in Western France serving as an advanced trainer with 22 other H-75s. Hawk No.82 was saved from scrapping in the 1950’s and was placed in storage in France until acquired by The Fighter Collection in 1995. Following a major overhaul in the United States she made her British debut in 2005. It wears an authentic Armée de l’Air standard three-tone scheme, with her GC 11/5 markings on her port, and the Lafeyette Escadrille Sioux Indian head motif (The Fighter Collection logo) on her starboard side. The Fighter Collection’s Hawk is a very rare aircraft, along with their P-36 they are the only versions of this aircraft currently airworthy anywhere in the world.
