Today, we are showing you all those AMAZING things in one (very long) video! We are SO THRILLED to finally get to show you our old house origin story. Whether you think we are the good guys or the villains, it all started here! In 1999, just three years into our marriage, we bought our first old home and got to work. She'd been a rental for several years, and had seen better days...MUCH BETTER DAYS. This is where we learned, and learned QUICKLY, that there is a big difference between book knowledge about Americas built environment, and the realities of the hands on preservation trades. We started small in the first few years: just cosmetic updates of removing some extremely questionable earlier decisions, and learning basics like floor refinishing and window re-glazing. A few years earlier we got brave. Really really brave, and we launching into our first huge construction projects. We leveled the foundation, did huge demo, framed walls, built custom cabinets, installed shower pans, laid tile, feathered in hardwood floors to match the original, and created a masterpiece of a space for modern living without sacrificing any of the homes historic integrity. Along the way we lived 12 years of our lives here, and learned so much about the family that built the home in 1933. There is so much history of two amazing people who built a beautiful home during the depression, their contributions to this community, and the lasting impact they had on this city. We sold her 13 years ago, so in this video you'll see what she looked like when we bought her, what she looked like when we sold her, and what she looks like today. She's been turned into a bit of a clean slate for a new owner, but all those amazing elements that made her so special are waiting for you!
