It has a strong, stocky body that can grow to be over 13 feet long. The body is somewhat wider than the head, which is short and blunt. The dorsal scales are brown or grey in hue, with lighter lower flanks and darker higher flanks and upper surface. The bottom of the face, as well as the lips, chin, and throat, are paler.
