ETIOLOGY OF HYSTERIA
The etiology of Hysteria is multifaceted, involving a complex interplay of psychological, social, and biological factors. While no single cause can be identified, several contributing factors have been recognized:
PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS:
Emotional stress, trauma, repressed emotions, and unresolved conflicts are frequently associated with the development of hysteria.
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Individuals with certain personality traits, such as a high level of neuroticism or a tendency to experience distress, are more susceptible to developing hysteria.
SOCIOCULTURAL INFLUENCES:
Societal expectations, cultural norms, and gender roles can impact the manifestation of hysteria.
Historically, women were disproportionately diagnosed with hysteria due to societal biases and limited medical understanding.
BIOLOGICAL FACTORS:
While psychological factors play a significant role, there is evidence to suggest that Neurological and Hormonal Imbalances might contribute to the development of Hysteria.
MANIFESTATIONS OF HYSTERIA
Hysteria presents a diverse array of symptoms that can be categorized into physical, emotional, and cognitive manifestations.
Common symptoms include:
PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS:
These can range from unexplained pain, muscle spasms, and fatigue to disturbances in sensory perception, such as numbness or tingling.
EMOTIONAL SYMPTOMS:
Anxiety, depression, mood swings, irritability, and even dissociation are common emotional symptoms associated with hysteria.
COGNITIVE SYMPTOMS:
Individuals with Hysteria may experience memory problems, concentration difficulties, and cognitive distortions, further adding to the complexity of their condition.
EPISODES of FITS in HYSTERA Patient:
Sometimes a Hysterical patient has a sudden seizure and screams. She makes a loud noise. starts to stagger and falls on the ground losing consciousness. But if you look carefully, you will know that she is not completely unconscious.
The patient also behaves in such a way that he/she does not get hurt and her face is not distorted as in an epileptic seizure.
The patient's eyelids are definitely fluttering and the eyes are turned up, but the eyes are not fully opened and the pupils are not dilated. The patient is wheezing but not suffocating.
