| Video Discription | Lord Rama was born to King Dasarath and Queen Kaushalya on Navami (ninth day) in the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Rama Navami is observed across India with great fervor. Devotees in Uttar Pradesh take a holy dip in the Sarayu River. Likewise, the Bhadrachalam temple in Telangana marks the occasion by performing the Shri Ramanavami Kalyanam Utsava, the wedding anniversary celebration of Rama and Sita. In South India, devotees prepare Panakam and Neer Mor. Panakam is a sweet drink prepared using jaggery. Neer Mor is buttermilk prepared with salt and spices. Both are great thirst quenchers in summer. Hence, not only are they offered to devotees as prasadam in temples but also freely distributed to the public at ‘panthals’ or makeshift temporary camps on the roadside, especially in Tamil Nadu. In this video, Archana Chandrasekaran shows us easy recipes of Panakam and Neer Mor. 1. PANAKAM INGREDIENTS: Jaggery - 1 cup Water - 1 litre (adjust as per preference; also depends on the sweetness of jaggery) Dry ginger - 2 inches Cardamom - 3 or 4 Lemon – 1 or 2 . METHOD: - Soak Jaggery in a litre of water. - Powder the dry ginger and cardamom. - Once the jaggery dissolves completely, add the powder and squeeze juice from 1 or 2 lemons. - - - - Serve chilled / room temperature Note: You may also use dry ginger powder and cardamom powder directly. Some people add small chunks of musk melon to the Panakam for an added cooling effect. 2. NEER MOR INGREDIENTS: Mildly sour thick curd - 1 cup Water - 1 litre Salt to taste Ginger - 1 inch Green chilly - 1 Curry leaves - 1 or 2 sprig Coriander leaves - Handful Hing – 1 Tsp Mustard seeds – 1 Tsp Til oil - Few drops.
