Cecum: The cecum is a pouch-like structure located in the lower right abdomen, connecting the ileum (last part of the small intestine) to the colon. The appendix, a small, tube-like structure, extends from the cecum and plays a role in the immune system. Ascending Colon: This vertical segment ascends on the right side of the abdomen, from the cecum to the hepatic flexure (where it turns horizontally to become the transverse colon). Transverse Colon: Extending horizontally across the upper abdomen, the transverse colon runs from the hepatic flexure to the splenic flexure (where it turns downward to become the descending colon).
