| Video Discription | The Kangra Valley Railway is a 164 Km long, 762 mm narrow gauge railway in the Kangra Valley. It connects Pathankot in Punjab to Joginder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh. The line was constructed primarily to transport heavy equipment to the Dam and hydroelectric power station on the Uhl river near Joginder Nagar. Construction was completed in 1929 but portions of the track were uprooted in 1940 to provide much needed steel for the Allied War effort. The track was restored by Government of independent India and has been in service since. Travellers on the line are treated to magnificent views of the Dhauladhar Himalayan ranges. The line has only two tunnels but the train crosses 993 bridges and winds through 484 curves on its 164 Km journey. The railway still uses vintage semaphore signals and traffic is managed using block systems based on Neale's Token exchange. The train runs at an average speed of 19 Km/h. [GlDTfojyBBE] |
