| Video Discription | When it comes to animal tourism, Thailand is indeed well known for their elephants. As an animal lover, I was very torn about whether to go see and interact with elephants because I was not sure if they were ethically raised and taken care of. After much research, I stumbled upon Karen Tribe Native Elephant & read more about them. I was pretty impressed with their itinerary and of course had to give it a go. They’re a small elephant tribe based in Mae La Kee (in Karen) and Mae La Kum (In Thai) consisting of 4 adults, 1 baby elephant and of course their caretakers. Something that I learned that was so wholesome is that the whole village is a self sufficient village and the whole community comes together to raise the crops to feed the elephants. I truly appreciate the fact that they also believe in holistic learning and caring of the elephants and to do that, they limit the number of visitors to only 8-10pax per DAY! They were very transparent with how they train their elephants to be domesticated so that they do not attack people and that alone shows so much honesty because a lot of “sanctuary” tells us that the elephants are not trained when in fact, wild elephants are prone to attack human at sight/when agitated. This whole experience was so educational and fulfilling because not only did I learn about the elephants but I also learned about the community, the culture and the harmony that exist in that small village.
