Its leader Joseph Kony wanted to seize power in Uganda and enforce a fundamentalist Christian regime based on a peculiar conception of the Bible’s Ten Commandments. The guerrilla became infamous for its brutality: mass killing of civilians, pillaging and the systematic use of child soldiers and sexual slaves… In the mid 2000’s the LRA was pushed out of Uganda and became an extremely mobile guerrilla active in DR Congo, the Central African Republic and the southern fringe of what is now South Sudan. The LRA’s predation over civilians could have continued unfettered if it hadn’t been for a regional military task force which vowed to destroy Joseph Kony’s troops… This coalition is led by Uganda, with active support from the United States. In the past years it’s managed to deal heavy blows to the LRA, but it’s mission to obliterate the LRA has yet to be achieved completely: the Lord’s Resistance Army remains a very real threat for many civilians, especially in “CAR” - the Central African Republic… Report by Grégoire Pourtier, Charles Garcia and Marina Cruz Gonzalez.
