The dance is based on the mythology of Goddess Durga, who is believed to have taken the form of a tiger to defeat a demon. The dance involves performers painted and dressed as tigers, dancing to the beats of traditional music played by accompanying drummers. Pili Nalike is not only a form of entertainment but also a way of preserving and passing on cultural traditions from one generation to another. The dance is an important part of the Southern part of Karnataka's cultural identity and a source of pride for them.
