Going from the first sketch to the car being launched in Modena took just two years - that's less than half the development time of most cars. But don’t let the speed of the process fool you, because Maserati is gunning for Ferrari with this car. It's been designed, developed and engineered to humiliate its opposition from down the road in Maranello - the Ferrari F8 Tributo. This no-expense-spared approach explains why, instead of using the Ferrari’s aluminium space-frame platform, Maserati has elected to follow in British company McLaren’s tyre tracks by developing a lighter, more rigid carbon-fibre tub for its car. And although its twin-turbocharged V6 plays a V8 motor in the Ferrari, our man Steve Sutcliffe reckons they've cracked it. This might just be the best mid-engined supercar on sale, and this is why.
