We do it because it's convenient and legal almost everywhere. The price is limited range and need to use relatively high power output. This is why Long Range FPV prefers 1.2GHz FPV. Lower frequency, more penetration, much longer range! The problem with 1.2GHz is hardware (and legality). Big and bulky transmitters and even bigger and bulkier receivers. It's hard to do anything without a ground station. Matek might have hit the spot with new 1.2GHz hardware. It's called Matek 1G3 VTX and 1G3 VRX. What's so special about it? Video transmitter is small, video receiver is small as well, and it's compatible with Fat Shark modules!
