| Video Discription | Arborists are often asked to give advice about pruning and removal of trees and shrubs in the front yard. Here we look at 5 different front yards and I discuss the concepts I think are important to keep in mind which include: Having a mostly open view of the front of the house Using foundation plantings to soften the hard edges of the house with taller (1 story) medium-sized trees or large shrubs on the corners, a variety of colors of green and flowering shrubs of different sizes in the front beds which do not block windows or sidewalk access. Having mid-sized trees (not many) in the front yard that does not overwhelm the feel of the yard, and are not planted directly in front of the front door. Teat might include Japanese maples, magnolias, birch, weeping or flowering cherry, etc. Not planting trees by the driveway or house that will get so big as to require continual maintenance in order to keep from interfering with the movement of people and cars.
