Early Life
Methil Devika was born in 1976 in Dubai, where she attended the The Indian High School. She was born to N. Rajagopalan who worked as chief engineer at the Etisalat, Dubai and Methil Rajeswari who is a writer. She has two elder sisters, Radhika Pillai(Communications Strategist) and Methil Renuka(Managing Editor, Forbes Africa). Writer Methil Radhakrishnan is her maternal uncle, and writer V. K. N.'s wife Vedavathi is her maternal aunt. Her uncle is also a renowned pathologist by the name Dr. M. Kannankutty.
Education
She attended the Indian High School, Dubai, St. Thomas Convent School, and Mercy College before obtaining an undergraduate degree in Commerce from Government Victoria College in Palakkad. She completed a Masters in Business Administration from Madras University with a first rank, and a master's degree in Performing Arts from the Rabindra Bharati University with a first rank and gold medal. She completed a Ph.D in Mohiniyattam from Bharathidasan University, Tamil Nadu, 2014. She has a UGC/NET in Performing Arts(2000).
Career
Dr. Methil Devika works as Research Supervisor, York University, Canada, Research Supervisor in the Department of Dance, Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University, Kerala and as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Performing Arts, Sree Sankaracarya University of Sanskrit, Kerala. She had been provisional lecturer in the Department of Post-graduate Studies (Mohiniyattam/Kathakali/Koodiyattam) She was also Head of the Department of International Students at Kerala Kalamandalam University. She is the Artistic Director of The Chitrakutam Art House, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The art house is for the training of Indian Classical Dance, allied philosophies and streams to both Indians and International students. The art house is involved in dance productions and documentation as also taking online courses and modules. It had functioned in the name of Sreepada Natya Kalari before it got registered in 2019.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND AWARDS
Archival Film was voted into the Oscar Award Contention List 2018, being the first Indian Classical Dance film to hit the Oscars.

PERFORMANCES
Solo performances in more than 500 stages. Have staged solo performances in most of the prestigious dance fests in India, a few them being, Khajuraho International Festival, Madras Music Academy, Mudra Festival and Nishagandhi Dance Festival. Also performed for various conventions organized by SPICMACAY, ICCR, Central Sangeeth Natak Akademy and State Akademy. Performed in Boston, New York, Texas, Philadelphia and Houston, Laos, Chiang Mai, Taiwan, Sydney, Melbourne, Switzerland, Singapore, and the Gulf countries. Devika has given lecture-demonstrations and paper-presentations in various schools and institutes in India and at universities abroad propagating Mohiniyattam and Malayalam literature, music, and poetry through her art. She has curated festivals such as the five day 2017 Chilanka Dance Festival and the Nishagandhi Festival in Thiruvananthapuram.[31]She also appeared in a 2015 theatre adaptation of the play Naaga with her husband, Mukesh, directed by Suveeran.
DOCUMENTATION
In 2018, Devika created the short film documentary Sarpatatwam or The Serpent Wisdom, based on her interpretation of the work of an 11th century poet. It gained significance as it was lauded as a work that was both anthroplogical and embodied. She set the [OjwdhEjnwrk] |
