| Video Discription | The summer months on the Eastern Seaboard are a fantastic time to hunt for mushrooms. The long muggy days elicit a veritable cornucopia of magnificent mushrooms. Some of my favorites to find are a set of three edible “Milk Cap” species. These mushrooms have evolved to exude a milky latex when injure to deter predation. . First we have the #VoluminousMilkCap #Lactifluusvolemus which has a orange/brown cap with tightly spaced gills and releases copious amounts of milky latex that smells fishy and turns brown. Next is the #CorrugatedMilkCap #Lactifluuscorrugis, which has a darker brown Calloway purplish cap, and darker brown gills, it also bleeds copious amounts of sticky milky latex that stains brown but doesn’t smell quite as fishy. Lastly is #Lactifluushygrophoroides, this has a bright orangey/copper top, and widely spaced gills underneath, producing relatively little latex when cut. . All three of these species are delicious edible mushrooms. L. volemus and corrugis tend to have a chalky texture when cooked straight in a pan, so I prefer to roast or boil/pickle them. L. hygrophoides is a top tier edible with crisp texture and a nutty seeet flavor, one of my absolute favorites.
