| Video Discription | 2025 Mini Countryman JCW First Drive Review: Big Power In A Compact Package The new 2025 Mini Countryman JCW packs a serious punch, squeezing 312 horsepower from its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. With that much power under the hood, this compact crossover is a blast to drive. Hitting 60 mph in an estimated 4.4 seconds, the JCW outruns many sports cars. The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission fires off rapid gear changes, always keeping the turbo four in the thick of its powerband. Steering is razor-sharp and body motions are well controlled, making the Countryman JCW a riot on twisty roads. The ride does get rather firm with the standard 20-inch wheels, though. We'd recommend the optional 19s if you want a more compliant ride quality. The JCW-spec brakes have no trouble hauling down this feisty Mini from speed. Inside, the sporty cabin has an unmistakable race car vibe with its bright contrast stitching, aggressive bolstering on the supportive front seats, and a meaty steering wheel. Some of the lower trim pieces are a bit plasticky, but the upper dash and door panels have an appropriately premium look and feel. While the Countryman is technically a subcompact crossover, it offers a spacious cabin for this size class. Adults can sit comfortably in the back seats, and there's a generous 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. The 9.4-inch circular infotainment touchscreen is an obvious focal point, running Mini's latest software with crisp graphics. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, as is a wireless charging pad. You can even download video games to play when parked. Safety is a bit of a mixed bag, with advanced driver aids like adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist being optional extras rather than standard equipment these days. At least automated emergency braking is included. With a starting price of $47,895, the 2025 Countryman JCW isn't cheap. But it does offer thrilling performance and practicality in one zesty little package.
