This is the first fully air conditioned train connecting the North Eastern and Western parts of India touching West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. It is the fastest train connecting Northeast India and Mumbai This train was announced in Union Railway Budget 2012 and it made its first inaugural run on 18 April 2013. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi flagged off the first fully air-conditioned Kamakhya-Lokmanya Tilak (T), Mumbai AC Express, at a function held at Kamakhya railway station. This train comprises 1 First AC, 4 AC 2-Tiers, 11 AC 3-Tiers, 1 AC Hot Buffet Car & 2 Luggage/Parcel cum Generator cum Brake van one of which is provided with the Guards' cabin. Total coach composition is 19. This train will be using the latest LHB Coaches. Rakes are owned and maintained by Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). A Itarsi based WAP-4 or WAM-4 hauls the train from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus until Itarsi after which a New Guwahati based WDM-3A or WDP-4/4B hauls the train for the remainder of its journey until Kamakhya. Before 12 February 2014, this train was used to be hauled by a Kalyan based WCAM-3 locomotive from LTT to Igatpuri because of DC traction in Mumbai region. The station lies near to the headquarters of Northeast Frontier Railway. It is the second-largest railway station of Guwahati after Guwahati railway station. Kamakhya junction has upgraded its passenger amenities in recent past. The station is being developed jointly with the Union Ministry of Tourism. It has 10 retiring rooms with free wifi, television, air-conditioner etc. A dormitory containing 10 beds, waiting halls for 120 passengers to accommodate with the digital display system. Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (also known by its former name Kurla Terminus, station code: LTT), is a railhead and a major railway terminus in the Kurla suburb of Mumbai, India. LTT is managed by the Central Railway. The Kurla and Tilak Nagar suburban railway stations are located nearby. It is one of five the railway termini within Mumbai, the others being Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Dadar on the Central line, and Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus on the Western line. LTT is located in middle of two suburban railway stations, Tilak Nagar and Kurla, on the Harbour line. It is easily accessible through Tilak Nagar as a direct overhead bridge is made to LTT from Tilak Nagar. A share rickshaw service is available from Kurla to LTT via level crossing. Average opening of the level crossing gate is 20 minutes. Air-conditioned dormitories were inaugurated at LTT on 16 April 2013 by then Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. The dorm at LTT is a 24-bed AC dorm exclusively for women. In 2003, Central Railway (CR) decided to expand LTT to take on more rail traffic, as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) had reached its saturation point, and was unable to handle any more express trains. In 2006, the Mumbai division of CR cleared the designs for construction of a swanky station complex to replace the dilapidated terminus complex. The new station complex design was prepared by the architect P. K. Das. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) also agreed to construct a ramp from LTT to the flyover to be built nearby, as part of the Santa Cruz–Chembur Link Road (SCLR). The revamped LTT was inaugurated on 16 April 2013 by Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. In October 2012, CR announced plans to cease long-distance train services at Dadar Terminus within 5–6 years.
