I know that the Bible has a lot of baggage attached to it for a lot of people, but I think that the way mystics read Scripture will be a fresh approach with the potential to help you read for your own spiritual growth. First, we talk about the three levels of biblical understanding outlined by the ancient Christian writer Origen. Then I run through the 6 Steps of Spiritual Reading outlined by Dutch Carmelite Kees Waaijman in his outstanding book "Spirituality: Forms, Foundations, Methods." These two perspectives have really helped me with my approach to Bible reading and study after making the switch to a more spiritual/mystical understanding of my personal faith, and I hope they inspire you too.
