Henriëtte Pimentel was born in 1890 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to a Jewish family. Little did she know that this daycare would become the epicenter of one of the most daring and heroic rescue operations of the Holocaust. Henriëtte Pimentel had been committed to children all her life. When she was given the opportunity to save Jewish children in 1942, she did not hesitate for a moment. Together with resistance members, she devised a system to smuggle children away from the daycare center opposite the Hollandsche Schouwburg. Six hundred children thus escaped deportation.
