| Video Discription | I traveled to northern Laos’ Xieng Khuang Province to explore the relatively unknown plain of jars. It’s a Plataue in the mountains that consists of many ancient burial sites with large carved stone funerary jars. The jars are thought to be used to hold cremated remains whilst also having in cremated burials next to the stone jars. The burials of the people that were not cremated were secondary burials. It’s thought that the bodies were placed in the jars to decompose. The bones would then be buried next to the jar with a stone lid over it. It’s curious that some people were cremated and their remains left in the jar whilst others were placed to decompose in the jar, to be removed and buried after decomposition. No one knows who carved and placed these stone jars here but 2,000 jars have been found. Unfortunately most of the jar site are not accessible due to the American secret war in Laos. The USA dropped more bombs on Laos than were dropped on the German forces during the Second World War. Many jars have been completely destroyed by US air raids. I explore the secrete history of the CIA’s secret war against communism in Laos.
