The police cracked down on protesters and resorted to using teargas. The police also fired bullets in the air to disperse the protesting crowd. The viral videos on social media show protesters clashing with police personnel. The demonstrators staged a “shutter-down and wheel-jam” strike, demanding tax-free electricity and subsidies on wheat flour. The strike was called by the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) which is a prominent rights movement. The strike followed JKJAAC's disrupted plans for a long march to Muzaffarabad.
