Drexel University is a global research university in Philadelphia. It was established in 1891 as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry. According to the QS World University Rankings 2023, the university ranked #651-700. Drexel is ranked among the top 60 private universities in the US by U.S. News & World Report.
The University was initially a non-degree granting institution. It started awarding bachelor's degrees in science when its 18 departments were organized into four schools in 1914. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). There is a total of 23,217 students, including 14,367 undergraduate students, 8,850 graduate and professional students, and 4,565 online students.
The University has three campuses in the city: the University City campus, the Centre City campus, and the Queen Lane campus. There are five libraries on the university campus. Students can participate in more than 300 clubs and organizations based on individual interests.
Drexel includes the Pennoni Honors College, Graduate College, Thomas R. Kline School of Law, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, and Goodwin College of Professional Studies. Students interested in health science and medicine can attend the College of Medicine, Science and Health Systems, College of Nursing and Health Professions, and Dornsife School of Public Health. For management and engineering, individuals can attend Bennett S. LeBow College of Business, College of Computing & Informatics, School of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering, and Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship. Each of these schools and colleges offers degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Drexel has more than 350 faculty members, and all of them are experts in their field.
Notable alums of Drexel include Paul Baran, a Polish-American engineer who was a pioneer in the development of computer networks; Michael Behe, an American biochemist, and author; and Kenneth C. Dahlberg, CEO of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), among many others.
Drexel's unique co-op program allows students to develop skills, explore employment choices, and gain full-time paid work experience. Students can look into specialized choices like research, entrepreneurship, or global co-ops. The Steinbright Career Development Center assists students throughout the co-op process as they apply to, prepare for, and interview for placements. The center connects students with employment partners.
