“It’s not a diss to Fetty Wap. It’s just a reincarnated word to be petty.”

Young M.A just dropped her newest single “PettyWap” this month, a follow up to her March release “Praktice.” The Brooklyn-bred rapper initially rose to fame after her 2016 hit “OOOUUU” went viral, peaking at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 later that year with the help of remixes by notable fellow New York MC’s like 50 Cent, Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma. “PettyWap” has already garnered 7.2 million YouTube views since its release earlier this month. Orrin “Dr. O” Wilson and Antwan “Amadeus” Thompson co-produced the track. On the song, Young M.A raps about how girls often prefer her over their boyfriends.

“I talk about taking chicks from their man all the time. Like this is nothing new,” Young M.A tells Genius. “Usually when a guy see if I’m recording a chick on my instagram, he automatically calling her phone if she gotta boyfriend, you know what I mean? Like what is you doing on Young M.A’s instagram?”

Young M.A recently sat down with Genius for the latest episode of Verified and broke down the track. Watch her go line-for-line with “PettyWap” in the video above, and check out past episodes, too.
