| Video Discription | Have you ever found yourself obsessing over your partner's exes or their sexual history? Or getting fixated on how you compare sexually? Well you wouldn't be alone. This kind of obsession is so common it has a name: retroactive jealousy. Retroactive jealousy is often recognised as a form of OCD, with accompanying rituals of asking questions about exes and reassurance seeking. We feel like we need to respond to our thoughts and worries. We can't change the past but we can ask our partner for more details; we want to close down the intense feelings of uncertainy. Retroactive jealousy and assurance seeking can lead to anxiety, sexual difficulties and relationship stress. And it's one of those things we can all relate to - to some degree. We get with someone new, we learn a few details about their previous relationships, and we can't help wondering about how we stack up. That's natural. But sometimes these wonderings become an unhealthy preoccupation. We might do some digging on Facebook or Instagram or whatever to feel more informed about our partner's past. Again that's kind of natural but can veer into obsessive territory. Ben got in touch and described this very situation: obsessing about his girlfriend's sexual past and difficulties with premature ejaculation. I explain how to stop obsessing and rebuild confidence, with a recommendation for ERP therapy if some assistance is required. The good news is both retroactive jealousy and sexual performance anxiety can be overcome, typically in that order.
