| Video Discription | After the October Revolution and feeling disheartened by Russia's political situation, Nicholas Roerich, along with his wife Helena and their two sons, George and Svetoslav, made the decision to emigrate. They initially settled in Finland in early 1918, but their deep fascination with Theosophical mysticism and their belief in an impending new age led them to set their sights on India. They joined the English-Welsh branch of the Theosophical Society and eventually moved to London. In 1920, while in London, the Roerichs began teaching their own mystical philosophy called Agni Yoga, which emphasized "living ethics." To support themselves financially, Roerich worked as a stage designer for Thomas Beecham's Covent Garden Theatre. During their time in England, Roerich formed friendships with notable figures such as the renowned British Buddhist Christmas Humphreys, the visionary writer H. G. Wells, and the poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, whose grand-niece Devika Rani would later marry Roerich's son Svetoslav. A successful exhibition in London caught the attention of a director at the Art Institute of Chicago, who extended an invitation for Roerich's artwork to tour the United States. This opportunity opened up new horizons for Roerich and marked the beginning of his artistic journey beyond Europe. --- The mission of the Nicholas Roerich Museum is essentially a narrow one: to make available to the public the full range of Roerich’s accomplishments.
