Adi Parva: Maharishi Narada arrives
The city of Indraprastha illumined with innumerable men, women & cattle. With lush green crops it flourished. A kingdom’s prosperity is dependent on its king. The good-nature of the Pandavas was the reason for the prosperity of the land.
When the pure-hearted Dharmaraja stepped into the kingdom, the city rejoiced. Due to the good-heartedness of the Pandavas that land flourished. With the presence of the Pandavas who in might were at par with Indra, the city illumined like Bhogavati, the city of the Nagas.
After the Shanti-karma rituals were complete, the priests were given plentiful dakshina. All important people were worshipped. All the priests left happily.
Dharmaraja then worshipped Vishwakarma, the celestial architect who had constructed the city & bid him farewell. He then worshipped Maharishi Vyasa & bid him farewell. Now only Srikrishna remained. Dharmaraja worshipped Srikrishna.
Just as Krishna was about to leave, Dharmaraja said: O virtuous one! O Scion of Yadu lineage! Only with your grace have I obtained a kingdom. Only with your grace, this land which was impenetrable & barren is now flourishing with wealth. Only your grace enabled me to sit on the throne.
O Madhava! You alone are our refuge. You are our father & mother. We do not know about our father Pandu. Hence you get us to do all those deeds that must be done. You command us about the rightful duties. We will obey’.
Krishna said: O Mahatma! With your own capacities you earned your kingdom rightfully. As this kingdom belongs to your ancestors, you are the rightful heir. Despite being wicked, Dhritarashtra’s sons cannot harm you. Rule dharmically. Serve Brahmins. Today Maharishi Narada will visit you. Obey his commands’.
Krishna then went to Kunti, bowed to her & said: Dear aunt! Please permit me to leave’.
Kunti then prayed: O Keshava! The troubles we faced in that lac palace are beyond mention. I cannot talk about them. Even my father Kuntibhoja is unaware of them. O Govinda! Only with Your help have I crossed troubles that were huge like an ocean. You are the protector of the weak & the downtrodden. With Your darshan, all our sorrows have dried away. O wise one! The Pandavas lead their life with their mind eternally fixed on You. Never forget them’.
Srikrishna then promised: Dear aunt! I will obey your command’. Bowing to her, He then left along with Balarama for Dwaraka. In this way, Srikrishna constructed Indraprastha & crowned Dharmaraja the king.
When Maharishi Vaishampayana said ‘With Srikrishna’s blessings, Pandavas lived happily’- Janmejaya wanted to know more in detail about the Pandavas. He asked, ‘Please tell me the great deeds of my ancestors in Indraprastha. How did Draupadi serve my mighty ancestors? How did they behave towards her? It is strange that no difference arose in them about her. How was it possible? I seek to know in detail’.
Seeking to clarify this, Maharishi said: Obeying King Dhritarashtra’s orders, the Pandavas resided in Khandavaprastha. They converted it to Indraprastha & lived happily there. Along with his brothers Dharmaraja ruled righteously. The brothers attained great renown for being truthful & dharmic.
One day when they were seated on their thrones, they noticed Maharishi Narada coming towards them from the path of skies, a path that non-ascetics cannot travel in. This path is pervaded with stars & is worshipped by the Maharishis. Garuda travels in this path which is illumined by the rays of the Sun & Moon.
Maharishi Narada who is revered in all 3 worlds, observed mega cities & the inhabitants therein as he descended. He is the master of Vedanta & Self-knowledge, is adept in every branch of knowledge, is a great tapasvi filled with supreme radiance, is the best among those who teach niti, is pure, peaceful & gentle-natured & showers auspiciousness on all.
Only dharmic men, Devatas & demons can obtain his blessings & darshan. He has no fear of samsara. He is the one who has established Vedic dharma in the world. He is an exponent in all 3 Vedas & in law. He strictly abides by truthfulness, is sinless & wanders constantly. He wears the subtle, pure & beautiful clothing given to him by Indra.
Just as Brihaspati steps into Indra’s home, he stepped into Dharmaraja’s home.
(Narada is considered a comic character who creates rift between people & often is ridiculed in movies. This is actually a grave sin. Maharishi Narada is the benefactor of the world. Praying to him ensures we obtain the Devatas’ blessings. He must never be addressed without the prefix Maharishi. Only when we develop true love for him, we understand about him).
Samhitas & Vedas have many dharmas prescribed for humans. Only Maharishi Narada knows them all. [qjiohvA1F9U] |
