| Video Discription | Around a week back, a friend of mine posted this song in one of the Facebook groups I am a member of, with a very nice note on the beauty of its lyrics. Ever since I saw that post, I have been wanting to make a cover of this song, and it’s not been easy as is the case with anything that I attempt from Salil Chowdhury’s vast repertoire - not just because of the arrangement complexities, but also because of how difficult it is to sing this. On top of its rather amazing lyrics, this song employs a beautiful chord sequence to gradually shift the key of the song from F major to A major in intervals of two semi-tones. And it is this gradual shift in the key that makes this so difficult to sing - it challenges you to find the bass-y depths of the voice in the first mukhda and forces you to explore its higher reaches in the final chorus. But what I find the best part of this song is the hook - “Mon haralo haralo mon haralo”, a refrain that has very few parallels in Bengali music. The original song did not have a very discernible bass-line, but I have included one generously, in addition to changing some of the fillers to suit a piano-based arrangement. I also couldn’t help but add harmonies to the chorus and I hope you enjoy this rendition of a song that - in my opinion - will remain one of Hemanta Mukherjee’s most astounding renditions.
